I Stand At the Door and Knock!

Knock knock, who’s there?

Since the beginning of 2026, the Lord has been speaking to His Church about idols, and idolatry of the heart.

The nation of Israel, God’s people, succumbed easily to the worship of the idols of the nations in their midst, that led to their ‘idolatry of the heart‘.

God repeatedly spoke to His people about the condition of their heart and its affect upon their relationship to Him.

His people did not listen.

Idols, and idolatry of the heart resulted in diseased hearts of sin in the nation of Israel.

Today, Christians, too, can have diseased hearts of sin that are the result of not separating themselves unto God, the Father; not keeping themselves focused upon the Lord Jesus Christ; and ignoring the guidance of the Holy Spirit according to the Word of God.

All non-believers possess a ‘diseased heart’ of sin.

Because all man-kind is born with a sin nature. (Roman 3:23)

Nothing can wash away our sin but the Blood of Jesus.

Without the shedding of Blood, there is no remission of sin. (Hebrews 9:22)

Jesus, God’s Son, is the Lamb of God who took away the sin of the world. (John 1:29)

“For He (God) made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (Jesus).” (2 Corinthians 5:21) (inserts mine)

This is the message of the Gospel.

Christ came; He was crucified on a cross; He was buried in a tomb; He was raised from the dead; He ascended into heaven; and one day He will come again.

John 3:1-36, I Corinthians 15: 1-58, I Thessalonians gives us the truth of the Gospel.

_______

The worship of idols, their influence, and their deceitfulness generates a sinful lifestyle.

The consequences of sin can takes many different forms in our lives.

Sin is ruthless in its pursuit and purpose.

“Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief(Satan)does not come except to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:7-10, NKJV) (insert mine)

Jesus’ abundant life is a quality of life, not a quantity in life (although quantity is not forbidden).

Q. What is the Lord Jesus Christ saying and doing?

1. He is calling out to His sheep to come to Him-and be separated unto Him.

2. He is calling out to His people to be made ready for a mighty work of God before He returns again.

3. He is looking for a response of obedience from His people to live holy before God.

Q. Is the Church able to hear the voice of the Lord in the midst of all the chaos, confusion, and competing voices that want to capture its attention?

Yes, Jesus, that His sheep hear His voice.

But are we, all like sheep, going our own way; and not paying attention to our Good Shepherd?

____________

God, the Father, called His people to be separated unto Himself; to live as a holy nation in the midst of the other nations of the world.

The history of the nation of Israel had successes and failures.

The history of Israel also reflects the heart of God for His people.

His heart is full of mercy, compassion, longsuffering, and forgiveness; constantly reaching out to them; making them aware of their sin; calling them to repentance; so that they would be restored to right relationship with Him and live their lives according to the covenant between them.

The issue is no different today.

Today there is a new covenant sealed by the Blood of the Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ.

The first covenant is gone; and there is a new and better covenant.

See the Epistle to the Hebrews.

___________

Let us draw our attention to the ‘Epistle of The Apostle Paul to the Ephesians’.

The Letter to the Ephesian Church addresses the foundation of the new covenant in chapters 1-3; and chapters 4-6 addresses the function of the new covenant in the Body of Christ.

I submit that we are witnessing the Lord Jesus Christ calling out to His Church as written in Ephesians 5:25-27.

The Apostle Paul writes, the Lord Jesus Christ, “loved His Church and gave Himself to her that He might sanctify (set it apart-marginal note) and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.” (NKJV)

Q. Is the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, living a sanctified life-a life set apart for Him?

The word of the Lord, spoken by the Holy Spirit, has been identifying the sin of idols and idolatry of the heart in the Church, to the Church.

This is the same pattern that we see in the seven letters written to the seven Churches in Revelation 2,3.

The Apostle Peter reminds the believers in Christ, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praised of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. (I Peter 2:9, NKJV)

Q. Is the Church living its life in the world, but apart from the world; separated unto the Lord Jesus Christ, as a holy people (before the Lord God Almighty) governed by the Holy Spirit, according to the Word of God?

The Lord Jesus Christ is shining the light of His Word into the hearts of His people.

The Lord Jesus Christ is revealing to His Church that there is the sin of idolatry in their hearts.

If we have the sin of idolatry in our heart, then we have a diseased heart.

But,

“If we confess our sin, He faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9, NKJV)

Now, as the Lord’s people, we can pray, II Chronicles 7:14,

“If My people , who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and heal their land.” (NKJV)

Q. Do you believe that?

Q. Has the Church done that?

“Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant , then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.” So Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid (set) before them all these words which the Lord commanded. Then all the people answered together and said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do.” So Moses brought back the words of the people to the Lord. ” (Exodus 19:5-8, NKJV) (insert mine)

Q. Did Israel keep their word to God?

A. No.

Q. Did God give up on them?

A. No.

God loved His people and pursued them.

Read The Book of Hosea.

______________

Today, believers in Christ, called the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, is the new Israel.

We have a new covenant in Christ Jesus.

Matthew 26:26-28, NKJV:

“And as they were eating (the Passover meal), Jesus took bread , blessed and broke it, and give it to the disciples and said, “Take eat; this is My body.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which shed for many for the remission of sins.” (insert mine, boldness mine)

Galatians 3:26-29 NKJV: “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. There is neither Jew or Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Galatians 6:15-16, NKJV: For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.”

Q. Who are we?

1. 2 Corinthians 5:7, NKJV: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.

2. 1 Corinthians 6:19, NKJV: “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

3. 2 Corinthians 4:5-7, NKJV: “For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts (boldness mine) to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in an earthen vessel (our body) that excellence of the power of God may be in God and not of us.” (insert mine)

Q. If there is darkness in our heart, in our body (the earthen vessel that is the temple of the Holy Spirit), because of ‘idolatry of the heart’ , then how radiant and pure is the light that shines forth from us reflecting the Lord Jesus Christ and the power of God by the Holy Spirit? (insert mine)

A. There is not a true witness coming out of us to a darkened world.

If we have ‘mix-worship’, then we have a ‘diseased heart’.

We cannot worship God in “spirit and in truth”. (John 4:24)

Therefore, we are not an earthen vessel ‘set-apart’ unto the Lord.

Therefore, we are not ‘holy’ unto the Lord.

We are not a ‘vessel of honor’. (context 2 Timothy 2:19-26)

The Lord Jesus Christ is looking for vessels willing to be sanctified (set-apart) unto Him to be used in this time of ‘unprecedented unrest’.

In His prayer to His Father, prior to His arrest, Jesus prays the following for His disciples.

“I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one (Satan). They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also send them. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word.” (John 17:14-20, NKJV) (boldness mine) (insert mine)

We are the ‘those’ who have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ through their word.

This has always been the Lord Jesus Christ’s purpose for His Church to proclaim the Word of God; and have a Church sanctified by the Word of God; living a life set-apart, holy, unto God.

______________

Revelation 3:14-22, the Lord Jesus Christ is addressing the Laodicean Church.

This passage of scripture has been used successfully as an evangelistic passage for people to open the door of the their heart and be saved.

I do not deny that emphasis and teaching.

_________

I am aware of the different teachings regarding the interpretation of the seven letters to the seven Churches in Asia Minor.

__________

Consider this, in context – the Lord Jesus Christ, has been addressing believers in seven different churches in Asia Minor.

He is specifically speaking to the elder of the community of believers in each city.

To the Church in Laodicea, the Lord Jesus Christ, is pictured as standing at the door of the community of believers.

Revelation 3:20, Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone (singular) hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him (singular) and dine with him (singular), and he with Me.” (NKJV) (inserts mine)

If I may project this scenario, based upon verses 17-18; there is a lot of activity going on inside the Laodicean Church that has centered its attention on things of the world and not upon the Lord Jesus Christ; i.e., they are in the world but not separated from the world.

In fact they are neither hot nor cold, but lukewarm. (Revelation 3:15-16)

The title to this post was, “I Stand at the Door and Knock!”

“Knock, knock, who’s there?”

I submit, the Lord is standing at the door of the hearts of His people.

Are they hearing Him knock?

If they hear Him knock, will they arise, come to the door, and let Him in.

Will they sit with Him, and hear what He has to personally say to them?

Christ’s words speak to an individual, “if anyone hears My voice…..”

This requires an individual response.

The choice is yours.

This has been the thrust of the past two posts.

The Lord is knocking at the door of our heart to get our attention to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.

Is there blessing, to hear, come to the door, let Him in, and hear what He wants to say to you individually?

Yes.

Revelation 3:21-22 (NKJV),

“To him (singular) who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame (John 16:32-33) and sat down with My Father on His throne. He (singular) who has an ear to hear, let him (singular) what the Spirit says to the churches.” (inserts mine)

I encourage you, to stop, turn off the competing voices; get silent before the Lord; and say to the Lord, “Lord I open my heart to You, come in and dine with me; I desire to hear what You have to say to me”.

Remember, He is looking for individuals who will hear and respond in obedience.

Your obedience to Christ will bring about change in your life.

You will enter upon a fresh journey with the Lord on a path of righteousness that He has prepared for you for “His name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:3)

It is time for each believer in Christ, to seek the Lord, open their heart to Him, listen to what He has to say, and be changed, according to His will and purpose for our individual life.

He is our Good Shepherd, and we are His sheep of His pasture. (Psalm 23, Psalm 95)

blessings, your brother in Christ, deo

P.S. It is not my intent to post until after the November 3,2026 election. I trust you will will take to heart what has be written since the beginning of 2026.

There is a lot to consider; maybe too much; but the posts have been sequential in their development.

That is why is good to step back and review what has been presented.

I encourage you to reread, to reflect, and to respond, as the Lord directs, by the Holy Spirit, according to the Word of God, to the glory of the Father.

Amen.
